Our Impact
As part of DP World Market Access in Botswana, ESG is not a separate initiative — it’s woven into the fabric of our business strategy. We recognise that our long-term success is intrinsically linked to the health of the environment, the well-being of our communities, and the strength of the governance frameworks we uphold.
Our ESG strategy focuses on three key pillars:
Together, these pillars guide us in building a resilient, inclusive and responsible future for Botswana.
We minimise waste by managing packaging responsibly and running a robust cardboard recycling programme. This initiative diverts significant waste from landfills and supports a circular economy in Botswana.
Our complete shift to energy-efficient LED lighting across all facilities has reduced both energy use and carbon emissions — cutting costs while shrinking our environmental footprint.
We’ve implemented a monthly tracking system to monitor fuel consumption, CO₂ emissions, water use and electricity. This data empowers strategic decisions and helps us target areas for continuous improvement.
We are actively exploring sustainable packaging options, renewable energy adoption, and employee-led environmental awareness initiatives — ensuring our commitment to the planet grows stronger every year.
Launched in 2021 by the South African High Commissioner to Botswana and supported by the Ministry of Health, Project MABU began as a celebration of newborns during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today, MABU has evolved into a national initiative that:
Gifts essential hampers to newborns in every district
Empowers mothers with literacy programmes and entrepreneurship skills
Promotes the nurturing spirit of community and care embodied in the word MABU
Through Project MABU, we embrace life’s beginnings while investing in the futures of Botswana’s families.
As proud partners of the Diabetes Association of Botswana, we support the Annual Diabetes Walk — a powerful movement to raise awareness about diabetes and promote healthier lifestyles.
Our support reflects our commitment to:
Community wellness and disease prevention
Access to health education and lifestyle resources
Building a healthier and more resilient society
The walk is not just an event — it’s a step toward nationwide change in public health awareness.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
We enforce strict PPE protocols in high-risk facility zones to ensure a safe working environment for all employees. Regular updates to our policies ensure alignment with global best practices.
Defensive Driving Programme:
With our fleet covering long distances across Botswana, we invest in defensive driving training for all truck drivers. This helps prevent accidents, save lives, and promote road safety for everyone.
Transparency, compliance and ethical operations are the foundation of our business.
We maintain strong partnerships and regulatory alignment with key national institutions to ensure full compliance and responsible operations:
Ministry of Health – Aligning with national health policy
Ministry of Trade and Industry – Supporting fair trade and economic development
Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS) – Ensuring quality and safety in our products
Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority (BoMRA) – Complying with all regulations for health-related products
Gambling Authority – Operating responsibly within legal frameworks
Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) – Timely, accurate tax contributions and financial compliance
We believe ethical governance fosters trust, builds resilience, and positions us as a responsible leader in Botswana’s FMCG sector.
